“Wonderful. We come all the way down that many stairs, and they’re gone from this point on. Why the hell did they have to remove the stairs to refurbish it?” Hunter said, looking indignant.
“How luck eludes us indeed! Well, this is impassable, without doubt. We shall have no choice but to head back up to negative eight again and contrive of another way” Emmerich cried. “Let us go.”
They went back up again, and stopped at the landing on which they had rested.
“The only way now, I think, is to find another way downwards in Sector U. We must enter the facility and face our foes once more, not knowing how badly this place is contaminated with Distortion Radiation.” Emmerich said to them as he pulled the door open. They entered, and again they came to the end of a single way corridor that some distance away converged with another. The walls of this corridor were of glass, revealing that on both sides of it were offices. Some had whiteboards covered with hand-written calculations, indicating that these were offices of researchers. All this became less vivid and important when they saw the blood stains. There were patches of dried blood scattered everywhere, some on tables, others on walls, and in some places the wall was stained red. Some panels of the glass wall separating the corridor and the offices were shattered, and on some were hand-prints of blood. Bodies littered the floor, hidden by the chairs and desks. Traces of blood lead forward to farther corridor that theirs joined. The lights were mostly extinguished, with only a few on the ceiling flashing dimly, contributing to the disquiets the violent scene brought them.
