The Pathless on Paths---------Chapter V part 2

* * *
Karrson wasn’t sure how he was able to have a dream in sleep that only lasted some ten minutes. The dream now faded out of his memory, leaving but a light indentation to mark that it once existed there. It was a bight beam from one of the temporary lights on the road side that had awakened him. They were nearing Ground Zero, and more traces of Giavoni could be seen. The lights, some fifty meters apart, had Giavoni signs on them. The buildings on the side of the road, Karrson sudden discovered, looked different now. Before he had fallen asleep, the buildings they passed were in fine shape, only with broken windows that the residents had now blocked with other things, and some times misplaced or broken items around. Not very effected by the blast from Ground Zero. But the buildings he now saw were nearer to Ground Zero, and thus more effected by the blast. But the destruction was rather different, not what you would totally expect to see after a large explosion. They were not collapsed, but twisted in odd fashions that defied physics. Some looked as if the top half had bee sliced off like one would do to a cake, and moved several meters to the side, or simply floated a few meters above their other half on the ground. Others seemed as if their middle section were stretched, a peculiar blade of cement or glass protruding from their waistlines, looking like something out of a photo-shopped picture, but by some absurd powers were thrown into the real world. Rarely, one could see some houses so twisted that they had been morphed into large teeth of material spiking up from the earth. The conditions worsened dramatically as they neared Ground Zero. The road, too, was effected. Mysterious potholes appeared, and in some sections the road folded or rolled in on itself, or a segment simply vanished, only to be found somewhere aside, above, or as Karrson had estimated, under the road itself. Luckily, they encountered nothing their off-roader could not mange, though the ride became rather bumpy and uncomfortable.
