“We will go all the way down to negative ten from here. We must make hast, for we have tarried longer than planed.” Emmerich said. “Be wary, and hasten! Let us find Dr. Kater before whatever Karrson woke finds us!” He led the company down the stairs swiftly.
Now that all was silent again, Karrson had time to think once more. He had not even seen the whole body of the monster before he fired. He saw only a head and a part that could be the torso. It was a D.L. doubtless, but it seemed too strange to have been once human. It’s head looked like an insect, with what appears o be two long antennas and a pincer-like mouth. The part that reveled to Karrson looked segmented, similar to an arthropod.
Great, Karrson thought. Now even a cockroach and become a man-eating hideous monster. Can’t wait to see what other abominations there will be.
He didn’t know why he felt an urge to kill it, but it just seemed to Karrson that such a creature should not be, and he had to wipe it from its unnatural existence. Yet, he realized that he was the one unnatural now. Distortion will, or has become the new “natural”. It was he, Karrson, who still held on to the human concept of nature that has fallen into dotage and no longer applies to the now, that was wrong. The world has redefined itself, and he had yet to do so. The rest of mankind, those that are not locked up awaiting doom in underground vaults, must undergo a reshaping: a reshaping of the mind, to see the world differently. Those that endure are reborn and will find ways to survive, while those that fail shall fall, bring mankind’s past civilization with them.
