“Still Weathertop,” Emmerich answered, looking back from the cockpit. “And yes I think I can still fly us there. It is in the outskirts, and is recognizable enough, so I believe I shan't require a landmark to find the way. As for whether Dr. Kater is there...that is what most worries me. I do not know,” He turned back. “We shall have to find out when we arrive. There will still be some time, so go get some sleep, while the circumstances allow it.”
“Yes indeed!” Hunter said as he walked back to his seat. He sat down and leaned back, closing his eyes.

The Pathless on Paths---------Chapter VII part 1

All along Karrson had been looking out of the window, watching the gray wastes roll beneath him. In the slow and mesmerizing bobble of the aircraft, sleep took him.
* * *
He was home again. He sat at his familiar desk, on his homely chair. He used to study here every night. The lamp shining on its smooth surface. A blank notebook lay upon it, without a pen. Karrson felt that something must be written down, or he shall forget it soon. He rose, and searched the bookcases that were mounted above his head, but ended without success. He used to keep lots of pens around here. He walked out of his room. Here was the short hallway that connected all the bedrooms with the living room, with doors opening on either side. He followed the hall out, and into the living room. It was empty. The TV sat on its mount silently, and the couch was cold. He looked towards the kitchen, finding that it was too empty. The lights were off, and no one was cooking. He walked back through the hall, searching in each bedroom. All were empty and silent. In fact, he could see no trace that anyone had actually lived in them at all: no possessions, no dust, just a clean and cold room. No one save him was home. Something did not feel quite right. He still could not find a pen. A sense of insecurity fell upon him. He grabbed the notebook, for he did not remember owning one like the one he held now, and headed for the door. His hand paused on the doorknob. He lived with none save his parents. Mum was likely at work, and dad was probably off on business of his own. The sense of loneliness pressed in on him. He could find his friend, living nearby, and have a chat, just to bypass time and keep the loneliness at bay for sometime. Yes, that is what he shall do. He twisted the doorknob and exited the door, not finding himself in the familiar elevator room right outside his house, but a vast gray plain. Whit light from the sky diffused on the land, but he could see no end or rise or depression in the ground: it just went on, to unguessed distances. He turned, wishing that he had never left his house, found that it was already gone. He was alone in a barren wasteland. He looked up, bt saw no sun: the light seems to just shine out of the air itself. He was lost for what to do.
