“Yeah...” Hunter said, as he looked into one of the dusty windows of a chopper. “They don’t look to be in working condition, you know...”
“This dust is so fine,” Sanders said, as he rubbed his dusty fingers, “I reckon it’ll grt into engines with no problem. If we start the engine, this stuff will just grind it into nothingness. At least these choppers outside not under a roof. They’ve got exposed engines.”
“What of the cars?” Karrson asked. This was their backup plan for if the choppers did not work. “They look like they’ve been abandoned for centuries, but in fact only a few weeks. With a bit of...well...cleaning, they should work fine.”
“We should prioritize air travel first,” Emmerich replied. “The road conditions out there are unknown to us. Air travel will be swifter and safer, I think. Let us not abandon our best chance while there be hope still.” He ledd the company through the lot, checking each chopper they find, but most of the time he withdrew his head with a look of disappointment. They were nearly at the end of the lot, and their hope of finding a working helicopter waned. Clare already went to check one of the cars. All were abashed and anxious.
