“I have the grenade launcher still.” Emmerich added, standing by the door. “Lock and load. It would appear that we must beat a path out of those infecteds.”
“Oh yeah,” Hunter said. “Why did we see none of them on level five?”
“Because,” Clark smiled. “Few are allowed there during work hours.”
They gathered around the door, ready to make a break for it.
“This is like one those zombie games I used to play, you know.” Hunter said. “Sadly, it’s real life, and we’re in a tight spot.”
“Only that we have six companions instead of four.” Karrson added.
“Wait. You play that game? I thought you were one of those bookish guys.”
“I am, but why does that forbid me from gaming?” Karrson laughed. “We have only known each other for a day!”
“Yet, it feels longer than a lifetime!” Hunter replied as the closet was moved aside and the door opened.
They ran with Clark in the lead, for he knew the place even better than Emmerich, who came last, covering their back. Sanders and Clare were in the middle, with Karrson and Hunter on either side. They tried not to fire unless the situation press them, so they just mostly shoved the apparently witless infecteds aside and ran as fast their formation allowed, and few of them bothered to pursue them, and even if they did, they were oft shut outside doors that were closed and sealed when they were yet to enter. The D.L.s they met few, but they were always carefully dealt with, often felled before it could make a move against the company, spouting varied colors of blood out of several gun wounds. They were in luck, for most of them seemed to have come from animals. The human-like D.L.s, the most dangerous, they encountered not.
