“Evasion shall be the center of our reactive actions,” Emmerich told them, “we must not enter a fight we cannot win.” With that, they headed off.
Soon they had drawn to the edge of the woods: a long line of tall and ancient trees. They towered above their heads, even the lowest of their boughs were far above. Their bark was rough and gray, grown with black fungus. Their leaves of faded green whispered above them, as a breath swept through, and with it carried the news of the arrivals to all trees throughout the woods. The forest would would know of their entrance, and as for their departure, it depended on the mood of the trees. Upon entering Karrson felt that though the world outside was dead, these woods were not: the Distortion only gave it more life, for the trees have now become an organic integrity, and they spoke to each other. A mist flowed from within the woods, riding upon a chill breeze, and with it, came a sense rather intangible to him: reluctance, enmity, a repelling feel. The forest, it seems, denied them of entry. But they had no choice, so all that they could do was to carry on and step in regardless of the warning.
