A man on the wall left, and returned shortly with another, who accepted a pair of binoculars from another man besides him, and looked their way.
Karrson did not dare to use the optics on his rifle for a better view for fear that they may mistake it for an offensive action and open fire.
The newly arrived man nodded at a man next to him, who spoke again. The man nodded once more, and left. The man who had stood beside him turned to the stationary company.
“Come forth slowly with your hands raised! Stop before the gates!”
They complied, and walked the very last seventy meters with their hands above their heads, possibly aimed at by several guns.
“Do you think this will work out?” Clark asked. “Not the most friendly of welcomes, I’d say.”
“A necessary precaution,” Emmerich said. “Things are different now, and you must catch up, Clark. It is our luck that they did not kill us the moment we were seen.”
“I believe, though, that we shall be perfectly fine.” Emmerich added, as they stopped before the gates.
