The Pathless on Paths---------Chapter V part 3(7)

“How? By making a noise elsewhere to draw it away? But it looks pretty intent upon us, you know.” Hunter said. That was true. The creature had not moved while they were discussing, but stood there stone-like and stared unmoving at them.
“We must try for the least.” Karrson said. He sought in his memory for something they could utilize to cause a diversion, but ended fruitlessly. He looked to Emmerich. “Anything we can use except one of us?” He asked.
“Yes, actually. Wait.” He crowed into the back and returned soon. “This,” he said, “should work.” He held up an M203 grenade launcher, and lid open the tub. He drew, from a belt he had also retrieved from the rear, two fat, golden-tipped grenades. “High explosive rounds. If the first one as diversion has no effect, than we shall destroy it with the second one, and fly before anything else gets to us.” Emmerich said as he attached the grenade launcher under the barrel of his rifle. “I did not think that we would have to use it, but as things are...we shall see what will happen.” Emmerich opened the driver’s side dorr, saying: “You two cover me if I need to reload. Shoot it if it moves in our direction.”
