The Pathless on Paths---------Chapter V part 3(5)

Emmerich made no response, but gestured for them to look ahead on the road, and reached for his HK416, turning off the safety. Karrson did the same after just one glance.
There, in the middle of the now narrow and broken road, stood a tall slender stature before them, some seven meters away. The headlights of the car shone upon its lower body. Tall indeed it was, for the lights only lit it from feet to neck, and its head was drowned in shadow. Slender it was indeed, too. It had legs too long for humans, maybe some one and a half in length, but were so so thin that they looked to be more akin to segmented sticks than to legs. Its arms trailed to its feet, also thin as new grown branches of trees, but at the end were grown claws the size of rubbish bin lids, with each claw long enough to pierce a man strait through. It stood hunch-backed, unmoving, silent. It was not obtuse, only waiting. Its head remain unseen, but its white pale eyes shone through the dark night air, pointed right at the company.

“Any idea how we’re gonna get through this?” Hunter said as he bit his lower lip.
