“Good thing: we are alone. Bad thing: I do not remember Giavoni saving power to the point of leaving the corridors in near darkness. They always keep illumination strong, even under a lockdown situation like this. Something is not right.” Emmerich said to them, peering through the windows from behind the cover of the door. “Nevertheless, the darkness may prove to our convenience. Let us advance silently and warily.” He carefully pushed the door open.
They came cautiously out, trying their best to avoid making any form of noise that could break the eerie silence that has filled the air around them. Karrson could hear his own heart pumping, the blood pounding his ear drums, and his breathing sounded so loud that he was sure all could hear it, though he desperately attempted to rebalance his anxious and uneven breaths. Their guns were raised and the safety was off, not knowing what foes they may encounter.
Emmerich surveyed both directions of the corridor, and motioned for them to follow as he took a right turn, heading towards a T-crossing where their corridor joined another. They stopped and pressed themselves against the wall as they reached the joint. Emmerich took a peak out turned back towards them looking worried. “Their is a security office just to the right, but it is vacant. What concerns me is that all the alarm lights on the ceiling of this corridor I can see are on, flashing a silent alarm. Someone must have turned the sound off, but the threat, whatever it may be, is likely still active. Also, my Geiger counter is clicking readings much too high for this area. I thought the facility underground would be uncontaminated, but it appears I am wrong.” Emmerich said. They walked out and turned right.
