They descended in silence for sometime, and eventually they arrived at the sought for hatch. It was at the deeper end of a narrow passage, which began right beside the ladder, a dark rectangular opening in the impenetrable cement walls of the lift-well. The filed inside, and reached a windowless air-sealed door of enforced steel.
“Beyond this door is the storage room. Let us hope no janitors are asked to work the late hours.”
Emmerich said as he rotated the wheel that is the door-handle. Several clicks sounded and the bolts in the door retracted into place with a dull thud. Emmerich slowly pushed the door ajar. The squeezed through the crack, closing the door behind them. The room was totally dark save a few beams of dim light that filtered through the windows on the wall that separated the room and the corridor outside.
