“But he will be if we do not make a move soon,” Emmerich said, loooking slightly relived. “This leads me to another question, though. What are your plans to escape? Perhaps our plans may converge and be complementary. Grouping up in this situation will surely improve our odds of getting out alive.”
“Ours? Get to the generator, set a timer and have it detonate after we get to the surface, then run like hell and get out of here.” Clark said, crossing his arms.
“Why? You’re gonna blow this place up?” Hunter asked in surprise. “Why take the trouble to do it?”
“Well, if we don’t, no one is going to. Wouldn’t want an RZ outbreak on the surface, right? So we’d better seal it underground for the sake of mankind, mind you. I know I haven’t been much of a success in my career, but on the account that, before you three turned up, we might as well all be dead before we reached the surface, so we figured that if we were gonna die, we were gonna take those monsters outside the door with us. Sounds comical, but we’re doing it.”
“We even had a hot debate on whether we oughtta do it,” Clark added. “And I still hold the opinion that we are not responsible for this and thus have no obligation to clean up after those idiots who caused it,” Clare cut in, looking indignant. “Look, we’ve had this argument before,” Clark said back harshly. “No man is without responsibility when it comes to deciding the survival of our kind.”
