“Well, I don’t know why they’d do such a thing, but the Ground Zero Incident was most likely Giavoni’s doing. A blow to mankind it will be, wait until I tell you why. I’ll cut to the chase first. The blast was too large for the facility to fully withstand. There is right now a tremendous rent on the west wall, the wall closest to the blast. Groundwater contaminated by Distortion Radiation started flowing in, flooding the lower levels. Very unfortunately, the blast caused irreversible damage to our equipment, to us and many others that meant only a blow to our research, very disheartening, yes, but definitely not life-threatening. For the Biological Department, though, it is not so. With their equipment ruined, they could no longer contain the things they developed, mostly viruses. A containment failure happened to a biological weapon they were developing, something they named ‘RZ’. Details about the thing I have no knowledge of, only its existence, but even that would have gotten me killed if Giavoni found out. Anyway, the virus was still in development, only a half-finished prototype with very unstable genetics when it was released. So, under the influence of Distortion Radiation, it mutated, becoming what you can call...well, a zombie virus. It quickly spread through the facility, infecting nearly everybody, and now we have a facility full of zombies and D.L.s, though the latter is rarer. I assume you know already about the Distortion Phenomenon?” The man told them this, looking helpless, the lines on his face growing deep.
