The Pathless on Paths---------Chapter VI part 4(4)

“Clare! Pull back! I am going to need your axe!” Emmerich shouted. “Cut these God-forsaken webs. Careful, though, or I may lose an arm.” Clare left to help Emmerich, with Karrson taking his position.
“What are they waiting for?” Karrson asked, as he studied the hissing and snapping spiders. They were not much different from the spiders he had seen before, excluding their abnormally large girth, pincers jaws and a nastily sharp claw at the end of each leg. A less grotesque mutation caused by the Radiation. These things must have multiplied quickly to have gained so much growth in population in such a short time. They even had enough time to grow into the size of a half a man. Who knew how much bigger they could grow? This suddenly reminded Karrson, and the answer to his earlier confusion struck him, as an obvious fact that they had been oblivious to:

If there be children, there must be also parents who bore them.
“They are waiting for the big ones. Their parents perhaps.” Karrson said.
“Great. More, bigger mutant spiders. How are we gonna get out of this?” Hunter said.
