Just then, the creature lunged at Emmerich with speed so swift that he became a blur to human eyes.
Karrson knew what he had to do. He launched himself from behind the door, clicking on his weapon-light, praying that Emmerich had drawn himself into cover in time. His worries were answered by a high-pitched screech, claws against steel. He threw himself onto the hood sliding, and rose into a kneeling position helped by his momentum. He took aim at the thing’s back before he had come to a full stop, and squeezed off three bursts of fire. The creature spasmed as the lead collided with its body, let out a blood-chilling scream, and collapsed against the door. It slid to the muddy ground, leaving pieces of flesh and trails of black blood on the door. A back pool began to grow beneath its body but soon mixed with rainwater and was washed away, as it lay face-down in the mud. Karrson directed his weapon light towards its head, and saw that it was long and bold, sitting on a long, frail neck. He also noticed the edges of a large mouth, with a few long, sharp and malicious teeth protruding. He added six more rounds to the thing’s head, ripping it into a mush of gore.
