“We shall purposely bear left a little, and I will leave signs on our path to avoid circling,” Emmerich said in the end. “Hopefully this shall work more or less.”
“I have had enough Deja-vu for a lifetime,” Hunter said. “Lets get out of here.”
Left with no other option, for the sky seemed to have began its darkening, the already weak light becoming even weaker, the company toiled on, now bearing left a bit, and quickened their pace, for they have tarried without progress long. Emmerich looked back once in a while, altering and correcting their course according to the marks he had made: snapped twigs and purposely placed stones. This did its job, and as Hunter had wished, they were no longer coming to the same place again and again. There was no way they could leave the hilltop and head further that day, for as the continued climbing the light nearly drowned itself out, and all about them the shadows lengthened and became darker. Soon their primary light source became the glowing plants and flying firefly-like insects. They offered little illumination, but marked the ground and path for them, and so no flashlight was needed...yet.
