“You demanded it, thus I shall let you have it.” Karrson said, as the silver-haired girl opposite of him did the same. The night closed in about them, yet in the girl’s amber eyes Karrson could spy no hint of darkness, but an odd mixture of resolve, tenderness and a, well slight bit of reverence perhaps. Karrson was never a heart-reader, especially not with women, and she was not exactly easy to see through.

The girl across the fire stood up and came to sit down at his side, but faced the opposite direction. Never leaving a direction unobserved, chuckled Karrson in his heart. How thoughtful. But again, how did it come to this? To feel no sense of security when backs remain unguarded? The answers to those questions even to the girl would be quite clear, but that made it no less disheartening to behold. The fire crackled and drew him back to the physical world.
