Emmerich returned and shut the car door. He looked troubled. “I have a sense of foreboding, his speaking into the radio seemed like an ill sign to me. Grab your guns. It may be possible if we have to fight our way in.”
Karrson could feel the anxiousness of the company in the air inside the car. He chambered a round in his rifle and held it in his lap. The car had one-way windows, so hopefully none outside could see it. “Weapon detected. M16A4. Ammunition status: thirty rounds. Warning, low spare ammunition.” The computer voice sounded again in his mask. “Combat mode initiated.” A figure at the lower right corner of his field of vision appeared. “30” it showed. Karrson was slightly relived when he saw it. At least he would have some form of assistance if it came to fighting. He felt a tap on his shoulder. It was hunter, offering him three extra magazines. He took them and laughed. Hunter had already placed his body-armor on. “Put it on,” he said as he threw Karrson his. “We ain’t dying here. It’d be a shame if the world ended because a guy decided to accidentally get shot,” Hunter laughed. “How are so good at joking when it comes to serious matters?” Karrson could not help but laugh with him.
