Just a bet
“Yeah.” Her words made Childe falter. “You came out of nowhere and jumped all over me, refused to listen to me saying no, embarrassed me in front of a huge chunk of the school population, my bag fell apart on me, and now I’m in the car of the same person who started it all getting a ride home. My pride is non-existent right now, Childe. Yes, it’s your fault.”
“…Oh.” His ego drained from him like a bucket of cold water being dropped on his head. “I… wow, haha, I have never been told that!” His laugh sounded fake even to his own ears and he let it die off awkwardly. Communication cut off between them after that, silence passing as they made their way to the local arcade. “Front or back? Any side of the street?”
“Back please, my side.” Lumine could feel the hurt in his voice, and it struck a small chord inside of her. She didn’t even know the man could feel regret like he did, let alone have it bother him. “Don’t worry about it, Childe. You’re already making it up with dinner, right?”
