Soon, Emmerich pulled his car into a garage-like place and parked. “This will possibly our goodbye to this wonderful vehicle that has saved us so much trouble. We do not plan on returning this way, and it is likely that this car will not survive for long so near the blast crater. We will go a short way on foot.” Emmerich said, as he pulled open the door.
They went to the boot and gathered the rest of the equipment. They only took what was needed: weapons and ammunition, food, first-aid, and other miscellaneous things that Emmerich had prepared. Their own clothes and student things were left behind, charged with being “dead weight”, according to Emmerich. In total not much was taken with them, only a light rucksack for each of them. They had on them more ammunition for their rifles, for Emmerich brought plenty to spare. Grenades hung from straps on their vest now, a surprise even to Hunter that Emmerich had somehow acquired them, let alone allow them to use it.
“You’re not afraid of us blowing ourselves up?” Hunter had asked, surprised.
“That is why I told you to not use them unless the situation forced you to do so. I will handle all the explosive operations, but still you must have some on you, lest all goes ill.”
