解释性翻译在科幻文学翻译中的运用 ——以《星球大战》衍生宇宙小说为例 （第一部分）(5)

By analyzing some of the specialities of science fiction and science fiction translation, this thesis forms a new method of translation. Based on the results above, the thesis chooses some of the translational works, part of which were done by the author of the thesis himself, and analyzes the way of using explanatory translation, the features of it and the value of using such translation. During the researching process, the thesis applies the theory of “a cognitive estrangement” and the nature of science fiction, i.e. popular fiction. The thesis also points out when to put explanatory translation into use, what standards must be followed, and the improvement that can be brought to the reading experience after using the method reasonably.

Novels from the Star Wars Expanded Universe include various stories, and many famous Western science fiction authors have created such novels. One of the advanta-ges of using novels from the Star Wars Expanded Universe as the research examples is that each author has his/hers unique writing style.
