I was tired of people weaseling their way into my business. I didn’t want people to see my problems and pretend that they could fix them. Yeah, being bullied sucked, but I just had to deal with it for a little while longer, and then it wouldn’t be my problem anymore.
It would be one thing if the people who saw what was happening did something to actually fix it. But they didn’t. Mrs. Reed knew I was being bullied, but she wouldn’t do anything to stop it. Lisa wasn’t stupid and had no doubt figured out that my frequent visits to the nurse’s office were the result of bullying, yet she did nothing to stop it. It was easier for them to ignore the problem than confront it because bullying was one of those things that, if it wasn’t addressed—fully and frequently—it got worse.

In my opinion, if they weren’t going to risk waging full out war on the issue, then they should just stay the hell out of it.
Racing against time, and not wanting the contents of my backpack to become completely soaked, I halted briefly at a stop sign and checked for traffic. A pair of headlights paused before the crosswalk. I quickly crossed so they could move again. As my foot left the road, I heard someone shout my name: “Hey, Elliot!”
