Prologue: One Year Ago.
"I want to go to America," My best friend said, laying out her clothes across the bed. Her eyes followed as she folded her clothes neatly before placing them away, a little disappointed that we were not able to travel together for our trip abroad. She had only been excited because of the opportunity, yet I was not feeling so well.
"You can still come with me," I said, trying to assure her. However, when I looked down at my stomach, I felt an urge to cry. All I could think of was being alone again.
"You're too sick to come."
She was right, but there wasn't anything anyone else could do. I was only three months pregnant, after all. It had taken us five years until this point; four since my last period and two since the last time I had gone for my checkup. But things seemed more urgent than ever now as I began to get nauseous everytime the thought entered my mind of leaving my home. In that moment, I wished for nothing more than for someone to take care of me.
I looked around the room at the mess we had made. There wasn't much cleanliness in our bedroom, but we needed something to make things feel less lonely.
