Emily's heel(8)

At least he calls her, sometimes. Or sends texts asking how things are going. Most of the time they consist of one word answers and generic platitudes or nothing at all. At least once a week he calls her to invite her to dinner. She's never been invited before. And she always declines. She tells her parents to invite her whenever they want, but they never really listen to her.
When her mom picks Sarah up for movie night, her father goes to work, so Emily spends the evening cleaning the house and putting things away while listening to music quietly so they don't hear her singing along. By the time her mother comes back from the movie theater with popcorn, wine and candy, Emily feels exhausted and her eyes are burning.
