Alberto was scrolling at her but didn’t seem to be quite as angry as before, or rather, he had decided to leave it to later. Lydia, beside him, was glowing, clutching her black bag in one hand.
She had changed clothes and was now wearing a snow-white dress and light yellow boots. Her jacket was missing, and violet ribbons wound through her hair. In all Appearance, she would seem like a middle school girl going on a long hike with her friends.
She was not wearing black, and the low atmosphere that surrounded her had dissipated, so Cecy blinked slowly when she saw Lydia, nearly not recognizing her. But of course, she realized, Lydia would seem oddly inadequate wearing black in the midst of tourists and common people. It would draw attention from the others that the three of them didn’t need.
‘Are you ready?’ Lydia asked, and Cecy nodded, glancing away. ‘Let’s go then.’
She drew a brush from one side of her backpack, which was normally meant for a bottle of water but was instead jumbled with tape, rope, spare brushes, and a pocketknife. Cecy stared once more. Of course, Lydia needed a backpack because her dress had no pockets, but was it necessary to stick so many different objects where they could be seen by others?
