The gates of the manor had just come into sight when she made out the sound of a dozen or so riders galloping down the other side of the lane... She urged her horse faster still.
The door was wide open, letting an icy wind fill the manor... Her throat tightened anxiously, and she leapt from her horse and dashed inside.
Following a hectic route, she finally came upon what seemed to be the sitting room. The windows were broken, the furniture turned end on end... A flash of lightning threw an eerie light onto the disordered room and a cry escaped her throat.
