Their link with the solar system was tenuous -- Taggart knew that they had established outposts on the dark, distant world men called Pluto and, like the spiky-headed Titanians, had undertaken secret mining operations in remote areas on the earth -- but their area of influence was far-reaching indeed, extending tenuously across countless light-millennia of space, embracing thousands of galaxies and perhaps even certain distant quasars. No race in the galaxy to which Earth belonged knew the origins of these creatures -- not even the mighty Zarr, who had conquered every world of the hundred billion suns comprising the galaxy which the astronomers of Taggart's world called the Andromeda Nebula. . . .
