Previously, Yongzhou ronin Wang such as, Hou Tuo, Yan Yi and others in the Jianghuai army, heard that Shile came, very afraid, so sent ten thousand troops to Xiangcheng to resist Shile. Shile defeated them, all captured. Shi Le reached Nanyang and was stationed in the mountains north of Wancheng. Wang Ru was afraid of Shi Le's attack on Xiangcheng, so he sent people to reward Shi Le's army with precious chariots and horses. He asked for a brotherly relationship with Shi Le, and Shi Le accepted him. Wang Ru was at loggerheads with Houtuo, so he advised Shle to attack Houtuo. In the evening, Shi Le ordered his soldiers to set out when Ji Ming sounded. In the morning, he approached the gates of Wan City and attacked it. Twelve days later, Wan City was captured. Yan Yi led his men to Hou Tuo's rescue, and when he arrived it was too late, he surrendered to Shi Le. Shi Le killed Hou Tuo, imprisoned Yan Yi and sent to Pingyang, annexed all their soldiers, so the military situation was more grand.

Shi Le attacked Xiangyang to the south and conquered more than thirty ramparts west of the Yangtze River. He left Diao Ying to defend Xiangyang and returned to attack Wangru himself with more than thirty thousand elite cavalry. He was worried about Wang Ru's strength, so he rushed to Xiangcheng. When Wang Ru knew this, he sent his brother Wang Li with 25,000 cavalry to pretend to reward the army, but in fact he wanted to surprise Shile. Shile attacked and destroyed them and stationed himself in the west of the Yangtze River, showing his ambition to dominate the Yangtze and the Han River. Zhang Bin cannot think, Shi Le remonstrated back to the north.
