帝皇座舰的华美光辉对应着日神，而芬里斯的狼群的野蛮不羁则对应着酒神，他们天真而豪放的大笑正仿佛尼采对酒神节日的描绘：炽热奔放、激情洋溢。此后黎曼的出场也几乎总是伴随着酒，从而与狄俄倪索斯的形象紧密相连。
而在黎曼进入了醉境后，他也开始了对自身本质的探寻，其中最关键的场景就是黎曼在芬里斯进入妖王的宫殿并接受了四项挑战，而这段经历也可以被解读为一场对存在的悲剧本质的体认。
在仪式开始时，黎曼“有些头晕，他心神恍惚地走着，如同一个人经过了漫长颠簸的航行，刚刚才离开摇晃的甲板，踏上了干燥的陆地”，接着“昏昏欲睡地走向了火山口”，这段描写中黎曼处在一种昏沉的近乎酒醉的状态中，暗示他进入了醉境。
前三项挑战中，妖王分别让黎曼喝干一杯蜜酒、与一位老妪摔跤、移动一头巨狼，而他全部失败了——蜜酒即是芬里斯野蛮的大海，老妪是晦气的命线，而巨狼正是死亡本身。
