If she could get out of here——it was so quiet here alone, devoid of human voice and any other human presence. Even the girl’s voice had not responded to her success.
She turned the knob, and the door opened out into a scene Cecy hadn’t expected. Outside the door was a road that looked like the route that led to her home, the one she had been unable to finish on that day she met the strangers in the alley.
With some hesitation, Cecy stepped onto the route and turned sideways into a longer path. Maybe this was just another hallucination, just like what she experienced when she stepped into the mirror for the first time. She had the intuition that there was something important on this path, something she might want to know.
Besides, unlike the mirror, she could return to the room if she wished at any time.
Her feet found the familiar bumpy feeling of the dusty road, and without need of guidance from the brain, they carried her towards the bend in the distance, where her home would have stood. She rounded the bend at a jog, and to her immense surprise there emerged a three-story house exactly like the one she, her sister and her aunt lived in.
