Chapter Nine(21)
‘But this is the only way we can save this world in general. Because these people will die anyway, in the explosion or when the world disappears. There’s no true way to save them.’
‘Wait, then you mean that,’ Cecy realized, ‘The ones who found out about the bombs are one of you, can travel between worlds and use mirrors, whatever magic tricks you know.’
‘One of us,’ Lydia corrected. ‘Because you are one of us, in ability if not yet in others. And these are not magic tricks. We do not actually belong on this world, you know. We live on the Capsule.’
‘You mean that if we die here, we will reappear back in the Capsule, as you call it?’ Cecy was beginning to feel too tired to keep the conversation going. She couldn’t think clearly. Her shoulders were burning, and she could feel Lydia’s fingers slipping just a bit downward.
‘No,’ Lydia said, ‘We will really die here. I know what you are thinking, and you can let——’
‘No, no, stop.’ Cecy interrupted before the bad idea could soften her grip. ‘Let’s talk about something else.’ She struggled to think of something. ‘I’m sorry for your blue bag, the one that you gave me. It slid into open air when I caught you, and it’s gone. I promise I will buy you another one after we get out of this mess, so don’t just give up.’
