Even if you are not my friend, I can’t just let someone die in front of me. And Lydia had taken good care of her in the Capsule, Cecy remembered. Lydia would have been willing to be her friend she was sure, if Cecy had asked her or accepted her as one. But Cecy did not, could not.
So, she simply held on, even though she was beginning to wonder what she was holding on to, was it Lydia or her old life, or both, that she was desperately trying to stop from slipping away.
