我是这艘已逝巨轮的船长。就在两个小时之前，我还与进行着深夜娱乐活动的乘客们谈天说地。一些喝醉了的银行家在水晶吊灯下面打着桥牌，每个人都一手拿着杯雪莉酒，一手捏着雪茄，享受着人生。
Out on the deck, I met a lovely couple who were going away for their honeymoon; the lad’s father, who owns a small cement factory in Belfast, had paid for their fares so that they could finally visit the new world and escape from their “smoky town”, as they put it. I laughed; the bad air had never been my problem, for I am a man of the sea.
出到甲板上，我遇到了一对去度蜜月的年轻夫妇。男的父亲在贝尔法斯特开了一家小水泥厂，出了钱给他们买了船票，成全他们去往新世界游玩的梦想，让他们逃离这个他们口中的“烟熏镇”。我不禁哈哈大笑，我从不担心空气问题，我属于海洋。
Then there it was, the iceberg, proudly sticking out of the Atlantic water patiently waiting for its prey; only this time, it was us, 2207 lives on the great liner on her maiden voyage.
