Because she was afraid. Knowing that the mysterious K would have Alice capture her and bring her back if she tried to escape. There was nowhere to run, so she had to face it.
All this flashed across her mind in a split second as the brush was handed back, seemingly without any change at all. Another part of Cecy’s mind grumbled, ungracefully, whether Alice had just wished to take a look at the new brush out of curiosity.
She didn’t look like she was in a hurry at all, weird. Despite everything she had been telling Cecy.
As if the boy she was chasing would be waiting——or that Alice was simply lying about him. After all, what magnificent luck Cecy would have, if this would be a coincidence.
‘I won’t lie to you,’ Cecy looked up from the brush, which she had been fingering unconsciously as she thought. Alice was looking at her, violet eyes clear. ‘There is no need to do so. You can never come back if you leave——but you can find another place like home perhaps. You can start your life anew, like we all did. Look forwards, and just maybe——’
