‘I saw something violet when I opened my eyes.’ She said. ‘Must have been somewhere high, I just turned over when I saw it, I think.’

Alice acknowledged the information without a hesitation, as Cecy had expected. Lightly putting her fingers on Will’s forehead, she seemed to be concentrating on something. A moment later she removed her forefingers and shook her head. ‘He’s not trying to reach out. I wonder what you did to make him end up like this, but he really is unconscious, not faking.’
‘But I did nothing at all.’ Cecy bit her lip, feeling uncertain emotions swirl up from her throat. ‘He was still very much awake when I tried to focus on where we were going. Just after we arrived, he was unresponsive. Didn’t even wake up to external noise.’
‘You tried to focus. So that’s why.’ She exhaled. ‘He tried to help you. It was one of his talents and also his duty as a mentor I suppose. But you repelled him. Master will be pleased.’ She seemed gratified, and more inclined to help than a moment before.
