“I’ve been thinking about my situation,” she acknowledged. The boy stood and listened, allowing her to continue. “You see, the thing is, I’m not really from around here.” Ah, that might have explained why she was strange and why he had never seen her before. Perhaps she was from a place where they didn’t do these kinds of things or perhaps she grew up in a different kind of environment. Hikari continued: “And, because of that, I’m a bit lost. I’ve been searching around trying to find a familiar place or at least somewhere that was much better-“ she interrupted herself with a cough, “but I don’t think it’s been working all that well.”
“So you were lost in the woods? That sounds a bit scary…”
“It could be described as that, I guess.” The girl stared up into the sky once again and fell silent for a little over 10 seconds before speaking up again. “I wasn’t in the best of situations before I found myself here,” she stated,
“I can imagine.”
“And, well, skipping stones across has made me think a little bit about this, since it might be-“ she coughed once again and paused for a couple of seconds. “It might be a good analogy for what has been going on recently.”
