It wasn’t long before the boy noticed that the sun was beginning to set. He stood up from his spot, brushing the dirt off of him when he got up. The girl looked at him as he began walking away.
“Where are you going?” the young lady asked.
“Home. It’s getting late, so I should probably go back.”
“Yeah, probably.” She stared at the boy that had already started heading off. She cast her gaze downward, looking dejected, disappointed. Why would she be so? She wasn’t very sure. Perhaps it was because she didn’t have a home; perhaps it was because the first person she had ever met was leaving so soon. She wasn’t entirely sure. Her eyes flew back to Jeff once he began talking to her once again.
“I had fun spending time with you, though I didn’t get to know you very well,” he smiled. “Maybe we could meet again another time.” The girl simply stared, saying nothing for a few moments.
“Yeah, perhaps,” she finally responded. “But it’s goodbye for now.”
“For now,” he repeated as he walked away. “Bye!”
“Goodbye, Jeff,” Hikari said back and the boy went off home.
The girl watched him walk away sitting on the ground. ‘Home’… Did she even have a place she could call that? As far as she knew, no. She had her own world she lived in, her own places she’s been to, but she’s never had a fixed point to call home. She always just went wherever she felt like going and she stayed there for a few seconds before leaving yet again. Perhaps ‘home’ was a place where she felt comfortable and safe and if that was the case, then this place was certainly not it. She felt better back there, back in the place she awoke. And yet, she liked this place. She liked the time she spent together with the boy, how he showed her to bounce the stone across and how he talked to her. He was nice and kind and he was simply pleasant to be around. Just like all of those people she saw in her memories, having fun and talking to each other.
