4. 天官赐福，地官赦罪，水官解厄 Heaven God Blessing, Earth God Forgiving, and Water God Relieving
天官赐福源于道教。道教奉天、地、水三神，称“三官”。根据其诞辰，三官又叫“三元”（上元、中元、下元）。天官主管诸天神仙，在上元节，也就是诞辰当天，下人间校定人之罪福，即为“天官赐福”。地官诞生于中元节，七月十五下凡校戒罪福，为人赦罪，称“地官赦罪”。水官每逢十月十五下凡校戒罪福，为人消灾，也就是“水官解厄”。
The phrase Heaven God Blessing derives from Taoism. Taoism worships Heaven God, Earth God and Water God, in pinyin Tian Guan, Di Guan, and Shui Guan, named as the Three Gods, in Chinese the Three Guan. The Three Gods also name the Three Yuan together, Shang Yuan, Zhong Yuan, and Xia Yuan respectively. Shang, zhong, and xia directly translate as top, middle and bottom respectively. Heaven God is in charge of all gods from heaven. On the Shang Yuan Festival (i.e. the Lantern Festival, on January 15 in lunar calendar), also his birthday, he comes down to the mortal realm to judge everyone’s sin and fortune, which is Heaven God Blessing. On the Zhong Yuan Festival (one of the ghost festival in China, on the half of July in lunar calendar), also his birthday, Earth God comes down to the mortal realm to judge everyone’s sin and fortune and forgive people’s sin, which is Earth God Forgiving. On the Xia Yuan Festival (on October 15 in lunar calendar), also his birthday, Water God comes down to the mortal realm to judge everyone’s sin and fortune and relieve people’s disasters, which is Water God Relieving.
