"Hey, there's something. Let's go check it out."
We advanced to the door of the small shop, that door giving a jingle as I pushed it open. I gasped and looked to the top of the doorway to see a small bell just below the threshold.
"Oh!" a voice came from beyond the counter. "I haven't seen anyone like you in a while!"
"Huh?"
The cashier stepped out from behind a pile clutter-- a thin, sandy-colored and tan-haired man with spiral horns. Looking under the divider of the desk I also noticed he had legs like the people did back home, unlike the people I saw just outside.
"Not from around here, are you?" his voice some mix of inquisitive and worried.
"N...No?" I replied.
"Heh, yeah, I can tell."
My ears fell back a bit. I don't know what it was, but his voice unsettled me-- not about him, but about our surroundings.
"So, what'll it be?" he came forward, trying to break the awkward air.
"Uh...um..." I mumbled while looking through the glass cabinet.
