In the first year of Yong 'an (304), Emperor Taidi and Sima Ying, king of Chengdu, defeated Sima Yue's army at the Battle of Dangyin (Tangyin, Henan Province) and bullied Emperor Hui of Jin to Yigong. Wang Jun led the Xianbei army to attack Sima Ying in the name of Sima Ying's humiliation of the Son of Heaven. Sima Ying was afraid and fled south to Luoyang with Emperor Hui hostage.
