Chapter seven Biography of Zudi(13)

During Zu Ti's expedition to the North, General Han Qian and General Tao Bao of later Zhao occupied the eastern and western parts of the city of Jun Yi respectively, and faced off against each other for more than forty days. Zu Ti ordered more than 1,000 people to transport the rice to Han Qian in a cloth bag filled with sand and pretending to be edible rice. Then he had a porter carry the real rice and lie down on the road as if he were tired. When the Zhao army sent its best troops to attack, the Danfu threw away the rice bag and fled in all directions. The Zhao army mistakenly thought that the Jin army had enough food, and their morale suffered a great setback. The Peach Leopards had no food in their army and finally withdrew overnight. The story of Zu Dizhi's retreat from the Peach leopards shows that he was both brave and resourceful, proficient in the art of war and strategy, and not just brave and reckless.
