Although Chang 'a was won and lost, and the good general Jin army suffered a lot, Liu Yu's heavy forces still guarded part of Guanzhong and recovered east of Tongguan and the whole Henan region. After two expeditions to the north, Liu Yu took possession of a large area south of the Yellow River, north of the Huai River and the upper reaches of the Han River.
His great military achievements made Liu Yu very prominent in the imperial court. In December, on the day of Wuyin (January 28, 419), Liu Yu appointed Wang Shaozhi to hang Emperor A of Jin. He then appointed his younger brother Sima Dewen, King of Langxie, as Emperor Jin Gong.
