A Holistic Analysis of A Good Man is Hard to Find

Someone has said that situation irony is easier to hint history and ideologies than language irony, which makes irony become a combination of a writer’s multiple thoughts, instead of a method of rhetoric. So did the situation irony in A Good Man is Hard to Find.
In terms of structure irony, the type of structure irony in A Good Man is Hard to Find is that writers place an ironic "core code" in stories, and expand the plot through this code, so that this code plays a constructive role, and the code in today’s story is a “good man”. The writer set the core in the title A Good Man is Hard to Find, forced readers to define actively an ambiguous concept at first and forced readers to distinguish who/what a “good man” was through the characters’ performance while reading. For the grandma, according to the content of language irony, we can realize that a good man she always dreamed of was at the stage of surface, luxury dress, superficial conversation, unintelligent kindness, hinting that she was a selfish, arrogant, malicious woman. For the Misfit, it might be hesitated for readers to conclude that he never belonged to a good man. Although he was a crazed fugitive, he persistently clung to his spiritual beliefs and was torn between the vacuum of faith. He willingly accepted the fact that he was not a good man, but he was able to face up to his sins, which is a principle of a “good man" in O'Connor’s perspective. His violent acts essentially challenged and disrupted the so-called world. As the novel draws to a close, the concept of a "good man" emerged above the water: the original "good man" in reader's eyes, the grandmother, had been living in sin, while the evildoer, the "wrong man", revealed his "good" potentially.
