Chapter Five(21)
Not now. She heard a voice in her mind. Her own voice.
Her focus zeroed in once more onto the rain-splattered terrace in her mind.
The sound of the wind grew louder beside her ears, and her excitement flared, the blaze brighter......brighter...... She knew she was close, she must have succeeded......
Suddenly a shriek pierced her excitement, whistling and sharp, passing through the wind. Startled, she opened her eyes, and the whirling darkness before her, spinning like a vortex, stunned her for a moment before she tried to focus on the image in her head.
But it was enough. The loss of attention lasted just long enough for Cecy to literally slam backwards swiftly through the darkness. Stumbling on nothing, her feet instinctively struggled to find purchase, but nothing solid was in reach. Panic replaced the excitement, and she could no longer remember what the terrace looked like——
All she could feel, was Will’s hand tightening on hers. He might have said something, but it was lost in the wind, which, though fading fast, was still loud enough to cover his voice.
