After this war, Fu Jian's hopes of uniting the North and South were completely dashed. Not only that, but the temporary unification of the North also fell apart, and many people, seeing his poor military ability, were no longer afraid to submit to him. Many local ethnic powers were divided again, and nobles such as Murong Chang of Xianbei and Yao Chang of Qiang took the opportunity to rise again and set up a new country. Fu Jian himself was captured and killed by Yao Chang two years later, which led to the demise of the former Qin Dynasty.

After this war, the division between the North and the South of China continued. The Eastern Jin took advantage of its victory in the northern expedition and recovered its native land south of the Yellow River. Before long, however, the prime minister Xie An died and the general of the front line Xie Xuan retired, so the Eastern Jin went on the defensive.
The victors of the war, the Eastern Jin Dynasty, were unable to regain control over the whole of China, but they effectively contained the southward encroachment of the northern minorities. The Battle of Feishui also became a famous example of the Feishui battle, recorded in military history, and exerted a lasting influence on the concept of war and decisive battle thought of later generations.
