The car crashed into the lake. The impact shattered his back and threw him over, causing severe injuries as he landed in the ice water and sunk to the bottom of the water, never to be seen again by another human being or the living thing beneath the ice.
There were no witnesses.

No one saw what happened. Nobody knew who was driving the car when they crashed. No one else could have possibly been near the crash site, either.
