Sky was already digging through the victim’s pocket, looking for any relevant clues.
There was a metallic jingle.
“Four coin, gold royals.”
Fang glanced over at Sky’s open paw. The coins are unmistakable: The Armellian King’s profile in the center, his maxim encircling the perimeter: From our unity, greatness beyond ourselves.
“Looks like our friends traveled up from Armello.”
“Some bones.”Sky said.
Fang turned.“From the victims?”
The ranger was kneeling now, examining where the altar met the rock of the mountain. She raised an open paw to the Greymane prince.“No, Raven bones.”
“Witchcraft.”Fang grunted, puffs of white fog from his snout.“Not surprised, considering——”
His ears snapped to, footsteps.
Fang reached for his greatsword, strapped across his back, and Sky her bow. Both breathed in relief when they saw River approaching. She was taller than Sky, and a good deal stronger —— most easily recognized by the massive bow she carried. While Sky was wearing the simple light armor of the wolf rangers, River’s elevated station and responsibilities necessitated a more ornate grab; her heavy heather jerkin was interwoven with steel scales, cloak cinching at the front in the eight-pointed Star Over the Mountain, symbol of the Wolf Clan.
