The story was posted to 4chan’s /X/ paranormal board on September 9th of 2012. Interestingly, the anonymous poster submitted the story whilst stating that he wanted to ‘look back’ on the story and suggested that he was posting it to enquire as to whether there was ever any follow up or resolution after the cliffhanger ending. 
The manner in which this post was made is unusual. The allusions the poster makes to the story would not only seem to suggest that the poster expected the community to already be familiar with the story, as if it was already widespread, but that they would be familiar enough with the tale to know that it ended on a cliffhanger and even potentially be aware of some continuations of the story.
