The car roared to life and almost immediately dinged a low fuel tone at him. “I know!” The sudden scream at the dashboard did nothing to help the situation but it did help ease even just a little of the stress inside of his mind. A long, deep breath was taken, and a hand ran through his hair. “Chill out, Jax,” he spoke to himself in a quivering voice. “Breathe...” Old habits from Snezhnaya, memories of his therapy, came back to him like a foggy smoke that he was struggling to grab hold of.

It took another five minutes before he was able to drive again. Pulling out slow into minimal traffic, without signalling, and he was on his way home. Back to a mother that didn’t look at him with fondness anymore. A sister who still had red-lined eyes. Two little boys who still didn’t understand where their new friend was. His father... The disappointment was clear on his face at every glance.
